CHICAGO- Texas A&M’s senior defensive end Chris Harrington is among a group of 27 collegiate players named to the 2007 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, presented by the Hendricks Foundation.

Harrington is a senior from Houston, Texas, and he is the Aggies’ top returning tackler and top sack man with seven quarterback sacks. A first-team All-Big 12 selection last year as a junior as well as being voted by his teammates as a permanent team captain, Harrington is serving his second year on the Aggies’ Leadership Council.

The Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football’s first three-time first-team All-America, Ted Hendricks. He used his agility, height and reach to block passes and kicks, force interceptions and defend quarterbacks and running backs transforming the way the defensive end position was played. His professional career spanned 15 years and 215 consecutive games. It included four Super Bowl wins, eight Pro Bowl selections and induction into the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. It is the spirit of Ted Hendricks’ aggressive style of play, winning attitude and determination that the award is presented.

On field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the award’s winner. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included in the 125 members of the award voting committee. This year’s preseason candidates include, but are not limited to the following players.

Harrington is also on the Lott Trophy Watch List as well as the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List. The Aggies open the 2007 campaign on Sept. 1 against Montana State at Kyle Field.
