Auto Express reports that, since 1994 when BMW bought MG Rover, BMW has owned the rights to the automobile name Triumph & may bring the TR back to join BMW, MINI, & Rolls-Royce as a 4th division of BMW Group. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/210892/triumph.html
Forbes’ list of Best Cars For Commuters includes MINI Cooper: “The British-made, BMW-designed MINI is a born commuter with its pint size, affordable price, go-kart handling, & spacious (for 2) cabin. The MINI can also fly past the pump, with highway economy of 33 mpg. Coming in February, a new, nine-inch-longer Clubman version makes room for more than backpacks & briefcases in the rear, adding a modestly useful back seat & extra cargo space.” The list also includes BMW 335i Convertible: “A convertible can enliven the most mundane drives -- including the daily commute. BMW’s first-ever hardtop convertible is a sport-sedan dream, with sleek looks, ferocious performance, & room for 4 adults. The practical side comes through in class-leading resale value; free scheduled maintenance for 4 years or 50,000 miles; & EPA highway mileage of up to 26 mpg.” http://www.forbes.com/forbeslife/vehicles/2007/10/10/cars-commuting-best-forbeslife-cx_lu_1011cars.html
In the Brazilian Grand Prix (to be broadcast LIVE on Speed TV this weekend), BMW Sauber F1 Team aims to end the season with 3 times as many constructor points as last year’s team debut. A very good year so far, & the guys are optimistic about their chances in Brazil. Nick Heidfeld: “I took my 1st podium finish in Interlagos in 2001 after coming 3rd. That’s something you never forget.” http://www.press.bmwgroup.com/pressclub/us02.nsf/ON?open&NID=1146f0fa4e3
Visitors to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas January 7-10 are in for a treat. The BMW Sauber F1 Team will have its Pit Lane Park at CES. “Entering the replica pit lane means stepping through the gateway to motor racing’s crowning discipline. Here visitors can put questions to Formula One experts, prove their talent as a member of the pit crew in the Pit Stop Challenge, or clock up some race laps in the simulator. Numerous exhibits will be on display that visitors are permitted -- indeed positively encouraged -- to touch in order to get to know the objects firsthand. But the highlight of every Pit Lane Park visit is the demonstration rides along the 90-meter track. A race car from the BMW Sauber F1 Team and one from Formula BMW, the worldwide junior series run by BMW, will be putting on some thrilling displays.” http://www.press.bmwgroup.com/pressclub/us02.nsf/ON?open&NID=115a918671a
