The note from Rita, a reader, got me to thinking about the foolishness she and her husband, Frank, were about to commit: They can't sell their home on Long Island right now because the market is bad, so she asked if they could they use part of Frank's 401(k) to buy a retirement condo in South Carolina without having a tax burden.
