At this restaurant, they fall all over you when you arrive, but as the meal wears on, they forget you exist, while they busy falling all over new parties. This happened twice to us in 2 visits, one lunch and one dinner. At the lunch, the server simply vanished into thin air for 20 long minutes, while the busboy filled in for her. She magically reappeared just in time to hand us our check. At dinner, the server that night started out well and everything went fine, but towards the end of the meal, we somehow became invisible to us, ... go to story

The Reader at one time was pretty good. The problem is there is zero consistency. A good writer will write a cover story never to return again. Holman's buddies all get columns, like that stiff that writes about wine, what a vanilla pudding. Josh Board is an idiot, & Greasy spoon or whatever the dude is that takes a frigging bus to all these cheap food places wears his prole cap a bit too proudly. Music is a joke here: at one time years ago they had Steve Esmedinia and Ted Burke who at least were interesting, Richard Meltzer was ... go to story

Yeah, but I think when they say "box office receipts," they're not talking about video and posters and crap. So the real question -- for most people, I think -- is what movie did the biggest box office and cost the least. go to story

I went to the hospital, to the emergency room this week, in 2007 and ecause I said I was mixed race they wanted to see what race I was they said I was 60 points plus to be african american in a blood sample. they did not get my permission. I want to know if it is legal to do that now in 2007, when this was written in 1998. go to story

I would have to agree with Nate to some degree...The Reader does have a lot of really boring cover stories. I guess they are designed for old people, who generally don't mind reading boring stuff. Occasionally there will be a good cover story like the one Jay Allen Sanford did with the bootlegger guy, or the one he did about rock and roll in SD. I don't mind the crasher column. The guy does go to some really boring parties though. And his style is rather bland. It's like "I went to a party. There was a red car in ... go to story

Did anyone come to the conclusion that local ( i.e. conservative) ownership never wanted KLSD to succeed in this format? Ever see a bllboard or large ad for it? Seriously, how many San Diegans even know it exists?... I, for one, will sorely miss the only station that questions the corporate media and speeks the truth more often than not. go to story

Don: Anything you hear about ratings is not true. KLSD had one bad quarter, after 10 good ones. Its also the transmitter problem. You just can't get it in a lot of the county, especially at night. Clear Channel got approval for a 10x power increase, which they will kick in only when the sports in on, and then try to make an unfair comparison based on that. KLSD is the most (to use the website term) "sticky" station in town. The average listening time is greater than all the others. All the more reason to have a large variety ... go to story

I may be wrong, but I think the all-time champ in the cost-to-profit ratio is The Full Monty -- about $1 million to produce and earning about $250,000 million by the time it closed. And then came video profits. go to story

I have to admit that for all the times blurt puts out a pissy story that seems like its right out off of Jerry Springer, it generally is a must-read each week. But the The Reader has GOT to look at its other sections. Who thinks anyone wants to read a long cover story about tomatoes? Please make them shorter and more interesting. And also, please do some polling about which feature gets read and which does not. I guarantee if you do, you will find that nobody cares about that Crasher waste of space. Randy: Schultz is not more entertaining than Rhodes. Its just because you agree with his politics more than hers, or you enjoy the sports, boating and fishing references, more than the gay, urban, or woman's references on Randi's show. Neither show is more "entertaining" on an objective basis. Its like calling up the "classic rock" station and complaining about the guitar solos: just don't listen if you don't enjoy it. Some of us demand that kind of politics. Conservative radio has an 8 year head start, and since Clear Channel owns Limbaugh and most of the stations, he is on ... go to story

The Perfect Timing for "The Perfect Drought." Very sobering article. Even before Sunday's fires, I was recommending it to friends. On Saturday, City Council candidate April Bolling came to my door to solicit my vote. She wanted to know what I thought the most important issues for San Diego were. I told her, "Water. We need it delivered or produced here, and the city needs to fix the crumbling infrastructure." go to story

Well, in their defense (and since I'm less mad now), they often times clean it up, too. I have misspellings, and my syntex sometimes sucks. But I like to write as if I'm talking, and I don't say "It was SRO". I say "The place was packed." There was a time a month ago, that my editor changed it, and made it a lot better. go to story

Liberal talk is never going to work unless they moderate their tone. Ed Schultz is entertaining but Randi Rhodes and the Air America crew daily Bush hate rant wears a person out. A daily dose of how we torture, eave drop, occupy other countrys and only cater to the rich gets old real quick. It's no wonder why only 1-2 % of the market listens to this programming. I know you live in Arizona, Don, and probably haven't heard the station much, but it was the worst example of radio engineering since the 1920s. They apparently don't have a switch that keeps 2 programs from coming on at once, and conservatively 100 times I've heard overlap from a commercial and a show, often lasting 2 minutes. No attempt to get good advertisers could possibly have been made. They made a point of running the same PSAs several dozen times a day each. They threw in the Gulls games that nobody cared about in the middle of shows, had ... go to story

I hope they don't do the HD, because the only reason for that is to keep another Air America station out of town. I don't know anyone who owns a HD-3 player. The whole point from the start was to self-sabotage the network. Everything from naming it after a drug and taking ads from head shops that used the term "schwag" (anyone who ever went to a KLSD event saw nothing but normal folks, most in their 50s and looking like they probably had jobs). go to story

I once had the unnerving task of killing a large (6') black tiger snake which had curled up on the roof beam of my factory in Northern NSW.
