At least forty people have been hurt after the beer garden tent at Oktoberfest collapsed during a severe thunderstorm Wednesday evening. EMSA Spokesperson Tina Wells tells NewsChannel 8 21 people have been transported to area hospitals. One person was critically injured, six were listed in serious condition and 14 in fair condition.
Wells says the injuries range from scrapes, cuts and lacerations to concussions and more serious injuries. Luckily, with it being corporate night, there weren't any children in attendance.
Wind gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour were reported with the storms, which raked across Tulsa County at about 7:30 p.m. Hail was also reported with the storms.
NewsChannel 8 General Manager Pat Baldwin was at the corporate event going on at Oktoberfest and says a sudden wind gust came in from the west and lifted the tent off the ground. He says the injuries that were sustained likely came from the tent poles that were ripped out of the ground.
We have several crews at the scene and will bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
