These interactive exhibitions will combine Sesame Street’s characters with educational curriculum based learning for K2-8 and an array of interactive sets and environments. The first of these interactive exhibitions is Sesame Street Presents: The Body, a multi-year tour that is set to premiere at Phoenix’s Arizona Science Center, May 14, 2005 running through November 27, 2005, and it will then travel to cities around the country through 2010. No worries about getting that video rental back to Blockbuster stores on-time because soon it just won’t matter anymore. As of January 1, 2005, Blockbuster will eliminate its late fee charges for movie or video game rentals at its 4,500+ brick and mortar franchise stores. ‘Doing away with late fees is the biggest and most important customer benefit we’ve ever offered…,” explained John Antioco, Blockbuster Chairman/CEO about the Blockbusters ongoing efforts to give its consumers what they want. Too good to be true? While there are no late fees, Blockbuster still has due dates: 1 wk for games, 2 days or 1 wk for movies. Customers can keep movies/games an extra few days, triggering Blockbuster’s new one-week grace period. After that, if a customer keeps the movie/game longer, the product will automatically sold to them, less the rental fee. Customers will then have 30 days to return the product to receive a full credit refund, less a ‘minimal’ restocking fee. Blockbuster estimates that in 2005, late fees would have generated about $250-$300m to its operating income. The company expects to offset that by growth in revenues from increased store traffic, less promotional & marketing activity, and increased focus on operating expense management. Additional Blockbuster consumer friendly endeavors put in place over the past 18 months, includes in-store movie, game and online DVD subscription programs, which offer customers no due dates, no late fees and an unlimited number of movie or game rentals, up to three at a time depending on the program, for one monthly fee.
