formed in Western Australia, continuing 85th Battalion which had never been formed, and  perpetuating 28th Battalion, AIF
1927 28th Battalion (The Swan Regiment)
1943 28th Australian Infantry Battalion (AIF)
mobilised for war service
1946 disbanded
1948 reformed in CMF and amalgamated with 16th Infantry Battalion (The Cameron Highlanders of Western Australia), to form 16th/28th Infantry Battalion

1952 28th Infantry Battalion (The Swan Regiment)
(unlinked from 16th Battalion; perpetuating 2/28th Battalion, AIF)
1960.07.01 reduced to three companies in 1st Battalion, The Royal Western Australia Regiment
