SIECUS' Culturally Competent HIV Prevention and Sexuality Education
SELF-GUIDED TRAINING MODULE
As part of our cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Adolescent and School Health, SIECUS created a one-day training for health and education professionals entitled Culturally Competent HIV Prevention and Sexuality Education.
This training examined the meaning, context, and impact of culture, and the role culture plays in health, sexual health, health care, education, and prevention efforts. In recent years, SIECUS facilitated this training to hundreds of health and education professionals across the country.
SIECUS created this new self-guided training module to provide health and education professionals who have not had the opportunity to attend these trainings with a means for exploring issues of culture and sexual health.
The self-guided training module is a Power Point presentation that includes information and ideas about culture as well as opportunities for participants to brainstorm ideas, reflect on personal experiences, and develop next steps. In addition, SIECUS has created a Training Guide that participants can print and use to follow the presentation. The Training Guide provides space for participants to answer questions, jot down ideas, and record ways in which they will apply what they've learned.
These documents contain HIV prevention messages that may not be appropriate for all audiences.
We are interested in finding out who uses this training module. Please share your contact information using the spaces provided below.
