Several kotakuites have pointed us towards a PDF file detailing the Activision and Vivendi deal on Vivendi's website, getting all overexcited by the games listed as being in the pipeline on the Activision side. Guitar Hero IV and Call of Duty 5 are listed, alongside new Marvel titles, a new Tony Hawk game, a racing game from Bizarre, new Dreamworks titles, and James Bond. The vibe I've been getting from these emails is "OMG! Guitar Hero IV! CoD 5!" Come on folks, really. Was there any doubt that those two titles would be getting additional sequels? Was there some big scare I missed where they hinted that their most popular franchises were ending with the last installments? Calm down. Have yourself a nice cup of tea and save the excitement for when they announce Call of Guitar Hero, where you travel from the future to battle Nazis with the one weapon they can't counter - ROCK AND ROLL. *throws up horns*

Haha..GHIV was a given after GHIII sold the ridiculous amount it did on release week. The GH name is just too popular to stop, and, unfortunately, it's more likely to see GHIV sooner rather than later, and DLC will get shafted again. Oh well--they're overpriced anyways!
Haven't tried CoD4 yet, but heard nothing but good things. Again, another obvious sequel.
Haha nice pic. Sequels like this are guaranteed to come out with or without a merger.
Guitar Hero 3 let Activision post up record breaking profits if I believe, not surprising at all they'd continue to pump out more of them. Hopefully the studio band will read the contract this time
If it weren't for the fact that they try to rip off people with the downloadable content with excessively high prices on the songs, there really wouldn't be a need for future Guitar Hero games. They could have made it so that future versions of the game would just be downloads and would save money on production costs and shipping. Well, I guess they wouldn't want to cut off the people who don't have their systems hooked up to the internets. Anyways, I wish they would set up some way for people who own GH I, II, and 80s for PS2 to download them onto their PS3s for free or at least a very reasonable price that is lower than the full cost of the games.
I guarantee that Call of Guitar Hero would be a huge hit. Make it just like The Typing of the Dead, except instead of typing words, you play short sequences of notes to bring the Nazis to their fascist knees.
OMG! YOU SQUISH OUR HAPPINESS!
Tough Actin Blizzactin = WINSAUCE
Any COD game made by Infinity Ward=must buy for me, so i'm hoping they aren't shipping development off to Treyarch again so they have a quicker release.... still washing out the bad taste cod 3 left in my mouth
I think it's funny that the text laughs at people surprised at COD5 or GH4 as "duh". But the headline draws people with those titles. Irony.
Sounds like a lot of recycling in the pipeline. Yawn.
I'm not sure these sequels were ever in doubt. In fact I'd be more surprised if they weren't released.
I can't wait for Call of Guitar Hero/Guitar of Duty.
@lionkitten: Actually, the original Headline I had was "Guitar Hero IV, Call of Duty 5, Duh" but I changed it at the last minute, fearing I was being a bit too caustic.
@Bunnyspatial: We could have handled it.
It would be sweet to merge the two games...fighting nazis with the power of rock.
As long as Call of Duty 5 is developed by Infinity Ward, I'll gladly open up my wallet
I will kill Nazis with my All-American guitar solos that are free from the tyranny of an oppressive government.
@kylenalepa: I actually REALLY want to play this game.
I wonder if COD 5 will be modern or future? There is not much they can do to improve on COD 4...
@Len Bias Cocaine Surplus: This would be the perfect game for some Terrible Ted or that country song where they say "we'll put a boot up your ass." Bah, songs like that really take away any wonder of why people hate us.
@Cwolf267: Really? I like the work of Infinity Ward as much as the next guy, but their prowess at game design doesn't undermine the abilities of Treyarch. I loved Call of Duty 3 and I'm glad it existed to bridge the gap between 2 and 4. It had a compelling and fun single-player game, in my opinion even better than 2's, and I had tons and tons of fun with the online multiplayer, which I played in about a 2 month period probably an equal amount or more than I've played Halo 3 so far. I did, admittedly, buy the game late, though... I got it around the time I got sick of Gears of War, which was in or around May.
It's sad because I think CoD5 will be in the WWII setting and will completely kill the franchise while confusing new players to the game. I don't see why IW shares their game with Treyarch which did an awful job at CoD3. :/
Guitar Hero should be good though. :D
@ceilingFANBOYeee: Toby Keith, Ted Nugent, and a touch of Stryper and this game will be amazing.
Guitar Hero died with the 3rd game. Its a shame because the DLC in rock band already destroyed GH2 and GH3 combined. A GH4 is pointless what else could they do because Battle mode was a waste of time.
@Len Bias Cocaine Surplus: Oh, and that song from Team America. America, FUCK YEAH! They would have to have both the rocking version of that and the ballad version. It would truly be kick ass.
@Fadakar: CoD5 is in WWII?? lol sure, kid.
Why did everybody hate Call of Duty 3? You guys probably didn't even give it a fair chance just because it wasn't developed by Infinity Ward. I mean, I can see how anybody but Nintendo doing a Mario platformer would likely not go over well, but at least play through it before you judge that it's sucktastic. I mean, I don't believe anyone COULD do a proper Mario platformer with any kind of quality besides Nintendo. The design is just too... classic, complex, simple, perplexingly paradoxical in every way. Anyone else would fail trying. But a World War 2 game? Come on, a million companies have made high quality World War 2 games, and just because one of them came out by one of those companies and it was not Infinity Ward but WAS called Call of Duty, does not mean it was bad. Play through the game. Play some online matches. It was well-made, fun, good leve-design, good AI.. I wouldn't hesitate to call it a great game.
if its ww2 i'll stick with cod4, sorry but im sick of ww2. i love it, i respect everyone who fought in it, i love to research it, but i don't like playing normandy over and over and paying $50 for it =p
@lionkitten: I was surprised, GH3 and COD4 were massive commercial failures.
Call of Duty 5 swwweeeettttt .
@Furious_Liver: You are winner!
Yey! More sequels! Go creativity!
Oh BTW that picture is just pure money. It reminds me of that horrible Mars Attacks movie how they beat the aliens..maybe the nazi's will be part of the chimera's cousins from R:fom and be trying to take over =p
And only the power of bad metal music from the 80s can stop it !!!! oh and that killers song when you were young. that is how you beat the final boss, adolf hitlers spawn of satan from the australian prisoner of war who was really the devil incarnate.
yes that makes about as much sense as a 5th sequel and going back to ww2.
@CockroachMan:
These comments always crack me up!
You must not play too many games then! Seriously!
@Zaos: I liked Mars Attacks. There is nothing wrong with an intentionally bad movie.
Yeah, I sent in a tip about this back in AUGUST.
[www.digitalsomething.com]
They are toying with the idea of custom tracks in GH IV.
@Cannedpasta:
Yeah, Rock Band is considering authoring tools via DL as well to do this!
Ah, good ol' exploitation of franchises. I fear these will be run into the ground, and the chances for original IP continue to slip away.
That poor soldier. He has yet to realize that he is holding a Guitar Hero controller and not a Rock Band controller. Is he really that bad that he can't tell the difference between him trying to use fret buttons that don't exist and him just missing all of the notes?
Shouldn't it be a GHIII expansion before GHIV? I thought that's what they were going to start doing, putting out 2 games a year (Rocks the 80's --> GHIII).
@KeFkA666:
Quoted for 100% truth. I'm on the Rock Band bandwagon and loving it.
"...Call of Guitar Hero, where you travel from the future to battle Nazis with the one weapon they can't counter - ROCK AND ROLL. *throws up horns*"- I actually spit a little water on my keyboard laughing at that. Thanks.
After playing COD4 for a whopping 45 minutes last night (including just one absolutely disastrous foray into multi-player), I would pre-order COD5 today as long as it's done by Infinity Ward.
"You scored 1,000,000 points! YOU ARE FAGS!"
guess i have to buy stock in Vivendi now
i need to get me a piece of all this ca$h baby!
@CockroachMan: Call of Duty 4 may have a big number in the title indicating sequal non-creativity blahblahblah, but really, they could've called it Call of Duty: Modern Combat and just left out the 4 altogether, cuz it's really completely different from it's predecessors, and therefore from an artistic standpoint it's quite creative... even if the play mechanics aren't all that different from previous games, it's still an improvement and great fun.
@callahan09: No its not, its the same Call of Duty game we have played for ages. Outside of some additions to multiplayer, its the exact same call of duty game we have always played, now with flashier graphics and a modern setting.
@callahan09: Thats the thing, it was just another WW2 shooter, they did NOTHING to improve the series. The first level was great, the huge church level, but the game blows its load within the first 10 minutes and then falls flat. It was just another unispired rehash to make Activision money until IW released their next game.
I can't speak for the multiplayer, I was only able to join 3 games out of the 200 or so I tried to join, the connection issues were never fixed by Treyarch (Yes I have an open NAT, blah blah, every live game has worked except cod 3)
Not only that, but you couldn't turn off aim assist, a minor thing that bugged me to no end.
yea its true, even some of the sound effects go back to COD2. Like the metal clinging noise grenades make when you throw them. I didnt think grenades would make that old fashioned noise in modern times.
Pretty sure IW said they weren't going to do any more WW2 CoDs anymore.
@Kyle81:
All te3h gamne3z are the DOOMZ!
@rockett1:
Why not, the design of the grenade had not changed in almost 100 years.
COD5: Future Combat?!?!?!?! oh yes please!
@EnigmaNemesis: But these are next generation grenades with next generation sounds. Rather than making a small tinking sound when they hit the ground, these grenades, aided by uncompressed PCM audio 7.1 channel surround sound, make a thunderous ring that can only be rivaled by the sound of the hunchback atop the Kotaku tower ringing the bell to signify the passing of another hour.
@ceilingFANBOYeee:
Ooooooh, I see now!
COD 5 is going to actually be COD:Big Red One 3. Basically a Treyarch generic shooter using the Call of Duty name. According to rumor they only are allowed to use the WW2 time frame as well, so it'll be set there rather than in the present/near future like COD4 was.
Long story short?
Ignore COD5 and look forward to COD6, which should be a IW game if I've timed my development swings correctly.
Predictable much?
Isn't ol' Uncle Tony signed up til 2015 anyway?
Soon enough it'll be Tony Hawk's Extreme Wheelchair Racing or something.
Wait, really? They're planning sequels to their two most popular franchises? And they've got a game in development from the company they recently shelled out tons of cash for? They're making more Marvel games?
My mind, she is blown.
Expect Neversoft on Call of Duty 5.... :(
Have they completely given up on DLC for Guitar Hero games. They had huge promises for GHIII and they ended up delivering what, 5 download packs, and they all sucked.
It just seems like they could sell DLC for 2 years and make just as much money without all of the development costs involved in a totally new game.
I hope that RockBand continues to take the DLC approach.
@DigitalHero: Theres going to be a REAL COD5 with the mass mob of pissed off fans at the office of Activision of they toss the COD license over to neversoft.
Just looking at what they did to Guitar Hero III Id hate to see what they would do with COD.
As long as IW is working on COD5 Ill be happy.
I can't even begin to think what CoD5 will be.
I'm not too crazy about Future Wars with energy weapons, so if that's where it's going, I'm out.
It would be interesting to see their take on the PMC/PSCs, as it seems Army of Two (from the ads, anyway) is all about rubbing it in your face that they get paid tons more than enlisted men. I'd rather see someone give you a look that says "yes, these are the things they do and it's a little grey and sometimes squicky. Oh and because of it they do get paid a bit more." But I suppose that would never have mass appeal...
See Call of Duty Hero would be nice but I think there are greater possibilities. How about them finally making a new class in World of Warcraft the Bard that is played almost entirely with the GH controller.
@rususeruru: $500 for me? :O

Fahey: "*throws up horns*"
Dude, if you can't keep them down, don't eat them. I find I'm the same with tusks, despite their excellent nutritional value.
yeah, i predicted this
now, i predict Guitar Hero 4 will have an even worse song list than 3 XD
guitar hero for will up the difficulty even further buy adding unnecessary 4 note chords to the game lol. Thanks Neversoft.
woops "4" not "for" haha.
GH3 had the best tracklist out of all of 'em...
Anyway I wish they wouldn't make another sequal and just put out more DLC...
*throws up horns*" Yeah... That's going in the Fahey File.
What are the odds we get a Warcraft theme for GH4?
@borsdy: And the worst notechart of them all. Turntable solo? Really?
@borsdy: My vote still stands with GH1. In fact, the only real problem that I have with that game stems from the difficulty of HO/POs. GH2, while fun, was a significant decline in replayability for me based solely upon the setlist. GH3 may edge it in terms of anthemic songs (Reigning Blood? Fuck yeah!), but sours the experience with some incomprehensible misses ("Kool Thing"? "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X."? Come on. Both of those bands are far better than that.
GHIV should be nice if only because Activision will presumably be ready to make this series their own. My suggestion: Overhaul the aesthetics. Seriously. You deserve it.
@rockett1: Um... what? Four-note chords would actually make sense, if you ask me.... what with, you know, the guitar having chords that consist of four (or more!) notes.
I just imagined CoD5 being in the future and having a level that is like the battle of Normandy but everything's made of metal related objects.
Guitar Hero IV: Get Stairway for gods sake! Now, can we just hope for that, and I will get it! As for Call of Duty, let's hope this is a World War III one!
Modern combat! Modern combat! Modern combat! Modern combat!
Okay, yes, that was really childish. But, if IW does follow the Battlefield formula and makes five in the future, it could be absolutely amazing!
Mechs. 'Nuff said.
I really like CoD4, but I think the lack of a cover system and the ability to open doors is criminal. As far as I'm concerned, the CoD series (and, in fact, all FPS) should take a leaf out of Crysis' book and let you decide how to do your missions. Large environments rock!
@cooldood: Yep. Maybe if you did your research you'd find clues as to why I said that, but then again you jumped to conclusions like an uneducated moron, wait that was redundant wasn't it?
i saw freaking diablo listed. DIABLO 3 ftw
Hmm, Bond huh? Another Nintendo multiplayer phenomenon maybe?
@neverkilled:
Isnt everyone already playing that in WoW?
*ducks*
@HikariOblivion: The fact that GHIII had paint it black was awesome enough for me.
