Last year at this time, Chris Redman was selling life insurance door to door. Now he's latest replacement for suspended QB Michael Vick. Redman has recovered from back and shoulder injuries and is throwing the ball crisply and accurately. Coach Bobby Petrino was Redman's offensive coordinator in college, so Redman already is comfortable with the Falcons' terminology and Petrino's play-calling style. The knock on Redman has been that he doesn't throw the deep ball well. That remains an issue, but he's sharp on short passes; that makes him an upgrade over Joey Harrington, who holds the ball too long, and Byron Leftwich, whose specialty is the long throw. ...
Rookie LG Justin Blalock has been benched in favor of D'Antony Batiste. Blalock had problems picking up stunts was beaten for more than 10 sacks this season. He struggled to maintain leverage and move with quick defensive linemen. Blalock relied on his size (6-4, 329) and upper-body strength to bully college linemen; now he needs to get his legs stronger. He also must improve his technique.
