What is Read to Succeed? Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators. This program has been designed to teach elementary school students the importance of reading while generating excitement, rewarding participation, and providing the opportunity to win class visits from Spartacat and Ottawa Senators players. Over the past five seasons, more than 1,950 classes and 50,000 students have been involved in the Scotiabank Read to Succeed program. How does it work? Teachers must register the class for the program. Following registration a confirmation email will be sent that includes the username and password. Starting in October, teachers will receive an email at the beginning of each month requesting the classes' reading goal. At the end of each month, a second email will be sent to confirm that the reading goal was achieved. All participating classes will receive the following:
Each month, successful classes will be entered into a draw to win one of six ‘Sparty Parties’. What is a Sparty Party? Five classes each month will receive the following:
One lucky class per month will be selected as the grand prize winner. The class will win a Sparty Party, which will also include a visit from an Ottawa Senators player, and a pair of tickets for each student in the class! New this season, registered classes will be randomly drawn to attend an Ottawa Senators home game courtesy of local businesses who support reading initiatives in the region.
