Representatives from Calumet College of St. Josephs Public Safety Management Bachelors and Public Safety Administration Masters Programs will be at the Education and Training Division on Wednesday, 5 Dec., from 1000 to 1300 hrs and from 1500 to 1700 hrs. Chicago Police Officers Compete in a Benefit Basketball Game to Help Feed Needy Families for Thanksgiving

Officers Competing Against Former NBA Players to Help the Less Fortunate

The Chicago Police Department Basketball All-Stars will take on former professional basketball players in a benefit basketball game to help feed needy families for Thanksgiving.

The game, scheduled for Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Fosco Park, 1312 S. Racine, will feature former professional players from Chicago such as Rickey Green ( Utah Jazz), Mitchell J.J. Anderson (Utah Jazz), Mickey Johnson ( Chicago Bulls), Tim Hardaway ( Miami Heat), and Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan (Australia).

“This is our fifth time hosting this benefit. Through the generosity of the citizens of Chicago, we have been able to feed hundreds of needy families,” said Chicago Police Officer Eddie Chapman, the event organizer. “It’s not only a time for being thankful but also a time for lending a helping hand to those in need, “ Chapman added.

The game starts at 11:00 a.m. with the doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Admission to the game is the donation of three or more non-perishable food items per person.

All the donated food items will then be distributed to needy families by the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 415 W. Englewood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60621.

Approximately 700 boxers from around the world will compete in this historical event, a precursor of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Today, 18 Sep. 07 at 1930 hours the Chicago Police Department will host a candlelight vigil to honor the fallen officers whose names are inscribed on our Memorial Wall. All department members, as well as their family and friends are encouraged to join us for this memorial service. The ceremony will take place at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park, located just east of Soldier Field along Lake Michigan. Take Lake Shore Drive from the north or south and exit at 18th street. All will be directed to complimentary parking available in the Waldron Garage and the Soldier Field south lot. Police personnel are encouraged to wear their Dress Uniform for the ceremony.

Charter School to be named after Fallen Officer

Officer_marquez_2    Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Marquez (parents of fallen officer Donald Marquez) and the entire Marquez family would like to extend an invitation to the Chicago Police Department to join them in the dedication ceremony of a new charter school named in honor of Officer Donald Marquez.

Officer Marquez was killed in the line of duty in 2002.

The Officer Donald J. Marquez Charter School, located at 2916 W. 47th Street (2 blocks west of California) will be dedicated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 30, 2007.

Please join Officer Marquez' family and friends as they celebrate his life of service and sacrifice by dedicating this facility in his honor.  This school is one of the first of its kind that will offer law enforcement related classes to its students.

All are welcome to attend.

ARE YOU AWARE?

The Carnable Cup is actually a charitable event benefitting the “Mission Beyond the Memorial” to help Chicago Police Families. The event will be held on Friday, 17 August 2007 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, 12294 Archer Ave., Lemont, IL. Police Officers and anyone in their foursome will receive a 20% discount if they golf on the Ravines/ Blue Course. Are You Ready for Football!!! CPD Football Team Begins Second Season

The Chicago Police football team will kick off their new season April 1 with the second annual inter-squad scrimmage.

The event, which will be held at St. Xavier University, 3700 W. 103rd St., is scheduled to begin at noon.

"The Enforcers" are part of the National Public Safety Football League, which consists of 16 teams from across the country.  All of the teams are made up of only police and fire personnel.  Chicago's team is the newest member of the league.  The NPSFL plays full contact football following NCAA rules.

This year, Chicago's head coach James Ade welcomes the newest member of his coaching staff, former Chicago Bear great Shaun Gayle.

The Chicago team is made up of sworn members of the Chicago Police Department and play to raise money for various local charities including the Gold Star Families, the Chicago Police Memorial and the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
