Artist Biography - Nathan And The Zydeco Cha-chas
Nathan Williams grew up in St. Martinville in a Creole-speaking home. As a young boy, he saw Zydeco's grand daddy, Clifton Chenier perform at a St. Martinville club. While recuperating from an illness, Williams realized his love of Zydeco and decided to learn accordion and dedicate himself to the music. With that small decision, Nathan has blossomed into a dedicated musician and songwriter always staying true to his roots. Nathan cut seven albums and has had a career spanning two decades. Musically, there is a presence of Caribbean lilt that is derived from the very onset of Creole culture in early Louisiana.
Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas is formed of Nathan, his brother Dennis Paul Williams on guitar; Nathan Williams Jr on Keyboards; Mark Williams on Rubboard; Sid 'El Sid O' Williams, eldest Williams who is Manager and accordion player; Herman 'Rat' Brown on drums and Robert LeBlanc on bass. Dennis Paul Williams, Nathan's brother is also an accomplished painter whose work is visible in their album, 'Hang it High, hang it low' and has also shown his work throughout the nation. Nathan Williams Jr has his own band in the Lafayette area while still enrolled in a music program at the University of Louisiana. For many years, Herman 'Rat' Brown, took charge of the drum chair with Buckwheat Zydeco.
