The transformation from a centuries old mercantile
port of call into an ultra modern maritime capital of the Gulf finds
its roots in the farsighted policies of the ruling family of Dubai.
In 1971 His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum commissioned
a feasibility study for the construction of an ambitious and very
large ship repair facility.
Today Dubai Drydocks has established itself as a leading shipyard
in the world and the premier yard between Europe and the Far East.
We are proud to have repaired vessels from around the globe.
Dubai Drydocks strives to provide a ship repair service, which fully
meets the requirements of its customers. To achieve this goal Dubai
Drydocks safety management system is certified to OHSAS 18001 –
1999 and the quality management system is certified to ISO 9001–2000
Since starting operations in 1983 the shipyard has repaired over
5000 vessels of all types and sizes many of which are ULCC’s
and VLCC’s representing a large proportion of the world’s
tanker fleet. Virtually every major owner and management company
across the globe has utilized the facilities.
The yard employs over 8500 multi-national skilled employees from 30 countries. This work force can
be supplemented by 1,500 workers from local subcontractors when
