Um, yes, their still there. In the background. The question is, are they still active in the 41st millennium.

So, is this thread to talk about them or what?

Not much to do with BL…

Hmm, I think the Rainbow Warriors should be Aztec based. That the ‘rainbow’ relates to the oil sheen on water, used to anoint their heads (the multi-colour stripe painted on the helm is a representation of this)

Might make an interesting BL book: about the death cult, how can be ‘good’ and the thunder god representation of the Emperor as Quetzalcoatl (father of civilization).

Just to get away from Greenpeace image that pops into my head every time I hear it (it works ).

Yes, I can see that being interesting...doesn't really get rid of the Greepeace images for me, I'm afraid to say. Perhaps if it was written up fully, and well, then yes, but not yet...

Fair enough, I was just surprised that the rainbow warriors hadn't gone unofficial.

Of course they're still official....they're just somewhat relegated.

There once was a time when people thought they were one of the missing Legions that were deleted from the records. But nowadays not so much. But as far as I know and held to be true....they always were an official Chapter.

However, teh way 40K is built, any Space Marine Chapter that you create is official too as its an open-ended universe for you to create your own Space Marines. The only difference is that your own Chapter may not make it into White Dwarf, but that doesn't stop them from purging the galaxy.

But background based....there isn't much. But as Mr. Sibbering said, it might just make n interesting twist on a Space Marine based book.

Damn you!

No Phil: no, no, no. No! Keep the Amazons to your, well, Amazons

Speaking of which, have you got your Amazon background (is it?) up on the web anywhere? I was thinking of using them in a tale in conjunction with Skegi (double 'g'?) at some point?

My Amazon background is up on my .net website (no direct linking due to it containing pictures) they are under the ‘Fonn’ tab.

They are totally unofficial, they aren’t based on South America Aztecs, Greek Amazons or… well have a look So my version of Amazons are not in Lustria.

If you want an official background on Amazons try here;

Why'd you locate the Amazons in Araby, then (I've only briefly scanned your Amazon page)?

And no, I wasn't suggesting using your vision as a basis for any fiction but (and let's be honest, Mr Sibbering) it's always worth having a read through your take on things before deciding your (in this case meaning my) vision is correct. For example, my view on power weapons is now--almost entirely--based on your own views, simply because I like yours better.

I've got official 'fluff' on the Amazonians coming out of my ears (or as much as what's been published warrants. More of a trickle than great spouts, though ), but the Skegi/Skeggi (which is it?) background in whichever WD it was got the ol' creative juices flowing. Such a fantastic setting (don't suppose you have any interest in sketching out a vision of Skegi/Skeggi do you? ).

Whilst I'm posting, though, would it be too cheeky to pop you an email at some point for your opinion on something entirely un-GW related? I don't want to overstep any sort of mark, or whathaveyou, so thought it best to ask.

I located them south of Araby because I wanted to develop the ‘Africa’ part of Warhammer but wanted to do something unexpected with it. After reading up on African culture, history and religion and chatting to friends I though that a version of Amazons would be a perfect fit.

Aztec, eh? Add in some Maori flavors and you've got my vote. Feathered helmets, ritual tattooing, war dances and eviscerator chainswords.

I think the eviscerator is about as close as we'll get to the Macahuitl -on the Aztec side- but the Ile O Mano, the Samoan shark-tooth dagger/knuckle duster, and the numerous Maori hand-warclubs would be a wee bit harder to come up with 400th century analogs. Maybe power knives in unusual shapes...

Instead of squads and companies, the Marines could be organized into waka and iwi (literally, your canoe-mates/family/"YOUR people" and your tribe/nation/ancestors) -or, alternately, warrior societies like the Eagle and Jaguar societies for the less experienced, and the Otontin and Cuachicqueh for first and second companies, or for the first squad in each company. Hairstyles, headdress types, tatoos and/or warpaint would change over time as a Marine gained experience and mana (prestiege, respect, spirit, etheriel power)...

GREAT idea, Phil. With a little imagination it wouldn't take all that much work to turn the Rainbow Warriors into a popular chapter.

I like the Rainbow Warriors, I actually redid the colours and wrote my own fluff back in high school. However, I must admit, I like Phil's idea about an Aztec themed chapter. Very cool. Go for it, I'd like to see something written from this angle.

In an attempt to cut energy costs, the Imperium unplugged the Golden Throne. Now they have grots running around in hamster wheels.

Or we could take them out into the ocean and sink them, one by one. That'd sort the Greenpeace problem.

Being serious for a moment, I think they'd look very evocative - especially if the 'fluff' reflected that aspect of them.

That...is below even Schafe's level. There is nothing wrong with homosexuals, and you being as childish and pathetic as to say that rainbows aree homosexual puts my opinion of you as very low. Or perhaps you did it to raise your post count? Which in my view is even more pathetic, does post count gain respect? No. And raising it with pathetic comments is even worse.

hey, nothing is below my level you just jumped on homosexuality when gay can also mean "brightly coloured" (or "happy" but I find the idea of really cheerful space marines creepy unless its a psychopathic manic laughter by some bezerker type just not a "oh look isn't that tree pretty" type of happy).

I'd imagine they might come from a world with lots of water in the atmosphere generally for some reason thus there are lots of rainbows natually forming.

Rainbow Warriors
Aztlán is the name home of the Nahua peoples;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztl%C3%A1n
The sun in the Nahuatl language is Tonaltzintli (tenochtli the sun god)

The Rainbow Warriors home world could be Tonal(tzintli) III, with the main continent Aztlán. The reference to the seven caves in their ancestry legend could be a reference to seven generation ships that brought them to Tonal III during the Dark Age of technology.

The main cities could be giant pyramid shaped hives similar to the Tyrell corp building in Blade Runner. Pictograms on the outside (more abstract than original), and perhaps the steps of the pyramid are like moats (something nice to look out at of the window)

As for human sacrifice, maybe the sacrifices are to the Space Marine Chapter. Taking such a place among the warriors of the stars would be a highly religious affair.

The ‘rainbow’ is derived from the oil on water effect of the moats on each layer of the pyramids or perhaps the stream they make produces rainbows in bright sun. Either way the water is used to mark warriors of the space marines - counted as ‘undead’ after the sacrifice and the water mark is kinda like home soil to a vampire.

Centurion marines have the sideway Mohawk in a rainbow (ah, bless).

Space Marines are seen as supernatural warriors of the ghods (the Primarchs) under the supreme ghod of the Emperor.

Anyone have an Aztec translation of ‘rainbow’?

Another possibility could be to have their planet a barren wasteland, nearly completely covered in sand and dry earth, where very little vegetation grows (help to get rid of the tree hugging idea). They could see the blistering sun as the evil of Chaos, constantly assaulting them and testing their faith.

Their god, the Emperor, is represented as the rain/fertillity god (links in well with the Emperor creating life in the form of Primarchs and the Space Marines) and that when the Sun and the Rain clash the people are granted sacred water and Rainbows are formed to show them that the Emperor will always be there to protect them.

When initiates are recruited they then ascend to the stars where they serve the Emperor as his warriors, hence the name Rainbow Warriors.

EDIT: Ix Chel means Lady Rainbow, a moon goddess who constantly chases the sun.

I have sold my soul to the Dark Powers of Chaos. However, now they want a refund!
