Death of a Great Show, September 6, 2007
Season Three marked a sudden fall from brilliance to idiocy. Despite the massive PR campaign ABC launched to try to convince people that season three was a great turn toward television artistry after the supposedly disappointing second season, the truth is that season two was too dark and intelligent for most TV viewers. Season three is really the moronic, bloated sitcom cum soap opera that the show's uninformed detractors had accused it of being during the first two seasons.
In the past I have regretted it when good shows get cancelled prematurely, but now I wish DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES had been taken off the air instead of dumbed down for the sake of ratings. How glad I am that WONDERFALLS, DEAD LIKE ME, and other great shows were cancelled rather than degraded by media moguls prostituting themselves to an ignorant public.
