Speech Sounds: H Sound
Description: Say Hi to the happy H sound.
Target Words : Find pictures of these items or actions, print them, color them, paste them on 3"x5" notecards and laminate or cover with clear contact paper. Put them in a shoe box and use them to practice the sounds. Or find the real objects and collect them into a "h" bag. Remember to give lots of tactile cues (see How to Teach Specific Sounds in Articles). |

- Sit in front of a mirror. Show your child how the mirror fogs up when you make the /h/ sound. Draw a circle with a dry erase or other washable marker. Use the circle as a target for the breath flow.
- Hold a tissue up in front of your face as you say the /h/ words. Watch how the tissue is moved by your airflow as you make the /h/ sound in each word.
- Find double copies of each picture. Glue them onto 3"x5" cards. Then play Go Fish with the cards. Make sure you and your child ask, "Do you have a ____?", exaggerating the /h/ sound.
- Make silly sentences, combining as many /h/ words as you can. (i.e., Harriet's horse has hot hair.)
