Capello signs contract

Ramón Calderón and Alfredo Di Stéfano preside the act

New Real Madrid Fabio Capello arrived in Madrid on Wednesday and finalised and signed his contract on Thursday morning, thus linking the Italian with Real Madrid for the next three years. Furthermore, Capello has brought four of his assistants. This morning, the new Madridista boss was reunited with some old friends, like Honourary President, Alfredo Di Stéfano, Dr. Alfonso del Corral, and General Sporting Director Pedja Mijatovic. It was a special morning for the Italian coach, who has finally returned home.

At 10:50 am CET, Fabio Capello entered the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for the second day in a row, where Pedja Mijatovic awaited and congratulated himself for the relationship he was about to seal with one of the most renowned coaches of the football world. With President, Ramón Calderón present, they closed the doors of the Board Room to finalise all legal issues before discussing the designed plan for Real Madrid 2006/07. It will be a three year contract, and Capello is convinced he can return the Club to glory. His official presentation before the press drew nearer, but there were still some very special moments to be had in the bowels of what, as of 6 June, is his new home.

While walking through the hallway, Capello crossed paths with someone who had shared the joys of the 1996/97 season with, Dr. Alfonso del Corral. They shared a warm hug, nostalgic words recalling the glory of a decade ago, and spoke about the future. However, the most emotional encounter took place with Real Madrid's Honourary President, Alfredo Di Stéfano. Capello's deep admiration for the legendary ‘Blond Arrow’ was captured with a sincere, enthusiastic greeting, and he told Di Stéfano, “We have to get back to winning.”

Before making his way to the Presidential Balcony for his official presentation, he signed his contract, receieved a gift from the Club, and had pictures taken with the Board of Directors, led by Ramón Calderón. Fabio Capello is now part of Real Madrid. His four assistatants are:
First assistant, Italo Galbiati.
Second assistant, Giancarlo Corradini.
Fitness trainer, Massimo Neri.
Goalkeeper coach, Franco Tancredi
