World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit defeats Triple H to retain

The critics always said that Chris Benoit could never win the big one. He started to prove them wrong when he won the 2004 Royal Rumble. Then he went on to shock the world he defeated Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania XX to become the World Heavyweight Champion. But even after he won the gold, critics thought it was just a matter of time before he would lose the championship. He proved them wrong once again when he defeated HBK and The Game in a Triple Threat rematch at Backlash. And many thought he was the underdog again, heading into Vengeance, when he went one on one against Triple H with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line.

This was a classic back and forth match, but as the match wore on, the referee was knocked out. Triple H called for his new “friend”, Eugene, to come to the ring to help him. Over the last few weeks leading up to the event, Triple H had deceitfully convinced Eugene he was his friend, but it was all a ploy to help him defeat Benoit. The Rabid Wolverine had tried to explain to Eugene what Triple H was doing, but he didn’t know who to believe.

In the end, Eugene had a steel chair, but Benoit tried to wrestle it away from him. Then, accidentally, Eugene leveled The Game with the chair, and Benoit made the cover. Eugene began to cry at what had just happened and retreated up the ramp. Meanwhile, Triple H was seething with anger at what had just occurred. But most importantly, Chris Benoit had once again won the big one, retaining the World Heavyweight Championship.
