The Tranquil PC is one of a new breed of home servers running the new Windows OS

Home servers come of age? -- If you haven't heard of it yet then chances are you've been in a coma these last 6 months. Windows Home Server is an operating system developed specifically to handle homes with multiple PCs. The idea is that a box (it won't have a keyboard or screen of its own) from the likes of HP or others will sit quietly (hopefully) and simply back up each connected PC on a daily basis. Essentially it's Microsoft's attempt at carving a chunk for itself in the home NAS (network attached storage) marketplace. And it may be on to something. With all the MP3s and photos each of us has to store, a solution which requires no active intervention on the part of anyone in the home has got to be appealing to those of us smart enough to know that a catastrophic hard disk failure is only around the next spin of the platter! » more
