History

The first official Miss China Universe Pageant was held on April 20, 2003, in Jinan, Shandong Province, with approval from the Chinese government agencies and endorsement from the Miss Universe Organization® headquartered in New York. The event was jointly organized by Shandong Tourism Administration and the Miss China Universe Organization. The titleholder of the 2003 Miss China Universe was Wu Wei, from Fujian, China. In June 2003, Wu Wei represented China at the 52nd Miss Universe Pageant in Panama City, Panama.

The 2004 Miss China Universe Pageant was held on April 28, 2004, in Kunming, Yunnan Province. With approval from local government agencies and endorsement from the Miss Universe Organization®, the pageant was organized jointly by Tanglong Media Services International, Yunnan TV and the Miss China Universe Organization. The titleholder of the 2004 Miss China Universe was Zhang Meng, from Tianjin, China. In June 2004, Zhang Meng represented China at the 53rd Miss Universe Pageant in Quito, Ecuador.

Kunming, Yunnan Province, was the site also for the 2005 Miss China Universe Pageant, held on April 23, 2005, with endorsement from both the local government agencies and the Miss Universe Organization®. Yunnan TV and the Miss China Universe Organization co-organized the 2005 pageant. The 2005 Miss China Universe titleholder was Tao Siyuan, from Sichuan, China. In June 2005, Tao Siyuan represented China at the 54th Miss Universe Pageant in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 2006 Miss China Universe Pageant moved to Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. It was held on March 1, 2006, and with endorsement from both the Chinese movement agencies and the Miss Universe Organization®. Heilongjiang TV and the Miss China Universe Organization organized the pageant jointly. The titleholder of the 2006 Miss China Universe was Gao Yinghui, from Heilongjiang, China. In July 2006, Gao Yinghui represented China at the 55th Miss Universe Pageant in Los Angeles, USA.

In May 2007, Miss Zhang Ningning, the titleholder of Miss China Universe Liaoning, was selected to represent China at the 56th Miss Universe China Pageant in Mexico City, Mexico, due to a conflict in pageant schedule. Miss Zhang Ningning won the “Miss Congeniality” award at the 2007 Miss Universe Pageant, the first award China has won at the Pageant since 2003.

The winner of the 2007 Miss China Universe Pageant, Miss Wei Ziya, will represent China at the 57th Miss Universe Pageant in 2008. The 2007 Miss China Universe Pageant, co-organized by the Nanyuan Group Limited of Ningbo and the Miss China Universe Organization, was held on May 18, 2007, in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.
