Boat Rock Comp 2008. Graphic by Anne McLaughlin.
The Boat Rock comp is local grass roots climbing and competition at it's finest. Homemade chili and brews (yes, someone is brewing homestyle), and local climbers kicking it on land that is owned by climbers and managed by climbers. We (climbers) keep it clean, pay the taxes, and climb till out fingertips are raw.. Greg Berry and John Hoseman set out to make a killer pre-comp video showing off highlights of past comps and whats in store for this years event. Enjoy.

Note: Special thanks to Greg Berry and John Hoseman and Team Boat Rock for putting together a great Boat Rock video. Thanks!

The Castle Rock crew gathers for a photo after picking up a pick up truck load of trash.
With beautiful skies and temperatures, a group of 20 climbers showed up at Castle Rock for the annual trail day and Access Fund Adopt-a-Crag day. The crew started out with cleaning up trash in the upper parking lot. Gary Merritt ran a weedeater and trimmed back the grass while Luis Rodriguez backed his truck way down the road to pull out a collection of old household garbage. Carole Simmons and Samantha Christen joined in to haul out trash tucked deep into the edges of the woods. The team hauled out two full pickup trucks of trash and debris, much of which was recycled back in town.

Note: Special thanks to our volunteers for their hard work and to our sponsors The Access Fund, REI, Backcountry.com, Harrison Shull, and The Warriors Way.

This past weekend the Triple Crown of Bouldering returned to Alabama for itís annual stop at Horse Pens 40. The boulderside camping combined with a well-organized and innovative comp format always make for one of the best events in the country. With one of the deepest fields in years and a sold out comp (there were more people on the waiting list than there are climbing at most comps) Triple Crown 2007 did not disappoint.
