CN Derailment - UPDATED
Dec, 04 2007 - 9:40 AM

EAST OF EDMONTON/630 CHED - The clean-up continues after 28-cars of a CN freight train derailed near the Antler Lake subdivision east of Sherwood Park overnight.

CN spokesman Kevin Franchuk tells 630 CHED News most of the cars that left the tracks were either empty or carried a mix of products including pipes and lumber.

A tanker car, previously containing gasoline but classified as empty, spilled about a litre of residue. Franchuck says that spill was contained and Alberta Environment was notified.

The eastbound CN freight had two locomotives and 113-cars. The cause of the derailment isn't known but CN hopes to re-open the line later today. (em)
