David Beckham leaving Portland Hospital after the birth of his son, Brooklyn, last night
VICTORIA ADAMS gave birth to a seven pound boy last night, becoming the second member of the Spice Girls to become a mother in under two weeks.

Miss Adams, 24, known as Posh Spice, was with her fiancé David Beckham, the England footballer, when she gave birth at the private Portland Hospital in central London, after less than four hours in labour.

The couple, who plan to marry this summer, named the child Brooklyn Joseph. A spokesman said they had chosen Brooklyn because Miss Adams found out she was pregnant when she was in New York last year on tour with the group. Joseph is Beckham's middle name.

A smiling Beckham emerged from the hospital shortly after the birth at 7.48pm, and said: "It's brilliant. Victoria is very well. She is sitting up drinking champagne and has spoken to the other girls. It's something I've always wanted, it's something I've always wanted to do. It was very exciting but also a little bit scary. There were no complications. It was lovely." He said he hoped the couple would have another child.

Miss Adams and Beckham had arrived at the hospital - where Scary Spice, Mel B, gave birth to her daughter Phoenix Chi two weeks ago - in a dark blue Range Rover. Wearing a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a blue hat, she was ushered into the hospital and later joined by members of her family bearing large bouquets of flowers and gifts.

The other Spice Girls were understood to be planning to visit the hospital which was surrounded by reporters and television camera crews as the night went on.
