To earn the right to represent their state in the Lockheed Martin MATHCOUNTS National Competition - 2007, students must advance through the school, chapter and state level competitions. The State Competitions are held in March.

The 2005 MATHCOUNTS National Competition took place May 5-8 in Detroit. Hosted by MATHCOUNTS National Sponsor General Motors, this exciting and inspiring event brought together 228 of the nation’s top middle school mathematicians at the GM Headquarters and Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. Neal Wu of Louisiana earned the title of National Champion and the Texas team won the National Team Champion title. Rankings of the top students and states is also available.
The 2005 National Champions and coaches met with President Bush in the Oval Office on May 12, 2005.
For the third year, ESPN broadcast an hour-long TV program on the 2005 MATHCOUNTS National Competition. The initial airings of this program were noon ET on Friday, June 3, 2005 and 6pm ET on Tuesday, June 7.
