Rural villages prepare to host 201 0visitors

OR Tambo International Airport, Gauteng4 January 2008 - Construction of bed and breakfast facilities has already begun in some deep rural hinterlands of Limpopo in preparation for expected visitors during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ to be held in South Africa.

The R15 million European Union-funded project has started in the areas of Muhlava, Sekgopo and Thabina villages outside Tzaneen in the Mopani district municipality.

  • 21 November 2007 - A R50-million state-of-the-art emergency and disaster management centre has been opened in Midrand, Johannesburg, as part of the province's preparation for the 2010 World Cup. The centre will handle the day-to-day operations of the provincial disaster and emergency services.
  • 21 November 2007 - South Africa and Mozambique have signed a treaty for the establishment of the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security. South African defence minister, Mosiuoa Lekota, said that the co-operation on defence and security between South Africa and Mozambique was critical for South Africa to host a successful and secure tournament in two years' time.
  • 21 November 2007 - The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government is currently implementing a provincial programme of action, which includes soccer clinics for children in the province. Two hundred children from the Amajuba Districts in northern KwaZulu-Natal will be trained today and tomorrow.
