Comments & Captchas a little "bananas" on my blog

Some time ago the captcha image would not show when you wanted to comment a post on my blog. When I found out I just disabeled captchas.

Today I found the same problem had occured again - so in to the admin I went, and captchas were enabeled - "Darn, how did that happen" I thought. So I disabeled them again. Then I went to check. Now the captcha image was there and working, but I just disabeled it???

Not sure what is going on here. I'm in the process of moving to another host (yet again) - I'll probably put a new version of BlogCFC on the new server, and just see what happens then.

Ok - I'm not talking about a programing language, but an actual spoken language. Mango is a free language course application (in Flash), now open for public beta. Being married to a Lithuanian with Russian as mother tounge - and kids who also talk Russian I've long time had as a goal to improve my Russian skills - but always put it of until "tomorrow". Maybe this time I'll manage :)

You can register and take one or more of the following courses:

Spanish
Russian
French
Italian
Mandarin Chinese
German
I'm on YouTube

Recently I picked up the guitar after a 8 year break in playing. The 13th of July was the first time playing live with my band Cephire. We gathered 6 bands ourselves included and arranged what we called "Metal Night" which we plan to make a recurring event - next one planned for November. But I'm going away from the topic. What I wanted to say is that a clip from our first consert has found it's way to YouTube (thanks to our bass player). You can check it out here. If you wonder - I'm the one to the left with the blue guitar.

Somewhat addicted to blogging

After reading that Andy is 85% addicted to blogging, I had to test my self. As I predicted my score was lower than Andy's, but still slightly higher than expected:

Getting tougher on spam email

 I have 5 email accounts that I use(d) daily. trond[at]ulseth.no, studio[at]waterswing.com, trondulseth[at]gmail.com, waterswing[at]gmail.com and my work email trond[at]idl.no.

The two first ones I've had for ages - since the time when spam was almost no issue. So they were being bombed. The mailserver would categorize low, medium and high probability of spam - and I already had medium and high deleted. Still the amount of spam was pretty high. So now I've started to forward those two email addresses to the two gmail accounts - as it seems that gmails spam filtering is very, very accurate.

So from now on it's from the gmail addresses (mainly the first one) and my work email you will see me use.

Man of the Month: Mark Drew

I hereby declare Mark Drew winner of the Man of the Month award. The work Mark does with CFEclipse is nothing short of amazing. I think his attention to the needs and wishes of the community by far exceeds what most commercial enterprises do.

So Mark, as you know I don't drink (alcohol that is), but never the less I raise my virtual glass of Jack Daniels in praise of you and the work you do with CFEclipse.

I encourage all that reads this and who are using CFEclipse to leave a comment raising your virtual glass as well!

Firefox extensions I can't live without

I just got a new pc in work (a Dell Precision M65 taking over for the older M50 - would have prefered a MacBook, but...). So after opening up Firefox there were clearly stuff missing there, I almost felt handicaped. So I installed all the extensions that I "need", in order to feel whole again.

Without further ado, here they are:

- All-in-One Gestures
- Firebug
- ShowIP
- Tab Mix Pluss

My new guitar

I know a lot of my fellow CF developers out there are also into playing music, so I thought I had to show this beauty.

It's an Ibanez RG2770 Prestige. A model only produced in 2004 in a very limited amount just for the Japanese market. They are very rare to come by outside of Japan, and I'm pretty sure it's the only one in Norway, and probably one of VERY few in Europe.

Apart from being a very rare guitar it's also a killer instrument in itself.

"Long live Rock and Roll"

Buying a mac - need advice

 Hi all,

We're looking into getting a new computer for home use. I thought I'd get us a iMac (24inch model). Being that I've hardly ever laid my hands on a mac before I thought I'd try and gather some advice.

The first question is important:
Will Windows XP in Paralells run all software it usually would (including ones that need a USB license plug to work). My wife has a $4000 program she uses in her work and it is very important that she should be able to work with it at home.

The second question is more of a "what software for mac do you recommend and why?"

The following categories are of interest:
Everyday life (mail, office apps, calendar etc...)
Web development
Music (recording, composing, etc...)
Utilities (those programs you can't live without - like ePrompter and Total Commander are for me on Windows)

Thank you for all your input.

Moved

Sunday we drove most of our stuff from the old house to the new one. We're still not quite finished renovating the new house, so living there is a bit "improvised" at the moment, but never the less, since we have moved I should be slightly less busy in evenings and weekends from now on. So blogging should increase....

Stay tuned both for CF/dev stuff, and personal stuff (the house, my new guitar etc...)

Is this a dead blog?

A fair question. I've been blogging very little lately, and a post over at Sean Corfields blog kinda reminded me.

A lame, and pretty worn out, excuse is that I've been to busy lately. In work life is always busy (more or less), but it's in the private sector things been crazy lately.

We sold our old house, and have to move out before 1st of February, and we are not yet finished with renovating the "new" house. So every evening, night and weekend is spent trying to get it ready.

Hang in there - once things normalize a little I'll find more time for blogging again.

Cheers,
Trond
