Welcome to Salem Historical Quarterly! Use this site to visit established historic sites in our capital city and to identify additional properties of local interest.
On the menu above:
Historical Sites describes public places to visit in Oregon's capital city. Use their individual websites or telephone numbers to learn about current events or exhibits.
In this issue we are featuring the World War I Doughboy memorial, created in 1924 for the lawn of the old Courthouse. Check the Oregon Department of Veteran Affairs page to see the memorial's present site.
Neighborhood Heritage illustrates the individual historical character of each of our 19 neighborhoods. Below the featured photograph and article, there is a Google map indicating both the official Salem Historical Properties and recently researched sites by SHQ. A team of volunteers is now being organized to contribute more information so we may photograph and record more of these sites in the future. Is there a interesting historic structure in your neighborhood that you would like recognized?
Use Historic FAQ to find local ordinances about historic properties and information on how to research the story of your own home.
