It’s not only the sunrise celebrations that are taking place across the world, there are plenty of awards being confirmed with one
American Troop choosing August 1st to celebrate individuals achievement.
Members from American Troop 405, from San Francisco, are awarding six of their scouts with the Eagle award, the highest honour that can be given to an American Scout.
To gain the award, each scout must complete a list of tasks that pick up in areas such as leadership, service and outdoor skills. Also, 21 merit badges (over a fifth of the activity badges available to America) must be held, and the previous ranks must have been achieved. Only 5% of Scouts receive the award, so a special moment for one troop to have six in one go. But these Scouts are not just receiving the normal Eagle Scout award, presented throughout America. They have special recognition badges. Once given, each must sign and date his badge, making it all the more memorable.
Specially designed with Star Wars Characters on them, and featuring the troops number and the Baden-Powell Butterfly ghosted into the design.
These awards are given on big camps, such as the 2001 and 2005 National Scout Camp, but nothing could be as special as the 100th Birthday of Scouting, set within the World Jamboree in England.
