READERS of The Daily Telegraph have been gripped by gorilla-mania, clamouring to try their luck at naming Taronga Zoo's newest son.
The baby western lowland gorilla, born 10 days ago, is bonding with his mother Frala at the zoo.
Visitors have flocked to his enclosure to take a peek at the newborn and many have jumped online to be part of animal history by finding him a name.
So far, the most popular of the nine names nominated by zoo staff is Fuzu, a Swahili word meaning to succeed or to win.
The other eight, also Swahili, are Fumbo (a proverb), Fumba (to close), Fika (to reach for), Fundi (a skilled person/craftsman), Fahali (a bull), Fahamu (to understand), Fikiri (to think, to ponder) and Fezuli (impudent).
To take part in the competition - brought to you by Taronga Zoo, The Daily Telegraph and Cumberland Newspapers - follow the link above and vote for your favourite name.
There's also a chance to win a Zoo Parent sponsorship of the baby gorilla and a day at the zoo for your family.
Plus, buy one of the stunning gorilla pictures by clicking here.
My suggestion for the baby gorilla's name: Tony Abbott
