Port Vale keeper forced to retire
Mark Goodlad
Goodlad suffered an Achilles injury at Bristol City in December 2006
Port Vale goalkeeper Mark Goodlad has been forced to retire through injury.

The 28-year-old has been unable to fully recover from a serious Achilles tendon problem he sustained in a game at Bristol City in December 2006.

"I have spoken to people close to me and ultimately I have had to make a hard decision. But I think it is for the best," Goodlad told Vale's website.

Goodlad started almost 250 games for Port Vale after joining the club from Nottingham Forest in March 2000.
