VAN – Doğan News Agency
Police seized two vans filled with explosives in the eastern city of Van and in the western city of Bursa yesterday, a day after an explosion in Diyarbakır killed five and injured scores.
Van police said they followed a van they believed was suspicious yesterday morning. The driver of the van refused to stop until he got out of the car and disappeared into side streets. The subsequent search revealed 50 kilograms of explosives and several hand grenades.
Police have begun searching all vans entering the city.
In the İnegöl region of Bursa, a tip-off led the gendarmerie to search a van that had come from Diyarbakır and found 14 kilograms of C-4 explosives and an automatic rifle. It is believed that the explosives were to be used in an attack similar to the one that occurred in Diyarbakır on Thursday. Two people were arrested.
