The fifth annual Christmas open house at the Goat Hill Museum Store in Alabama’s
State Capitol is Friday, December 1, from 8:30 to 4:30, and Saturday, December
2, from 9 to 4. This year’s event celebrates the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and
Travel’s state tourism theme The Year of Alabama Arts and featured Alabama
artists at Goat Hill include items by:
. Mt. Olive quilter Bettye Kimbrell (demonstrating in the store on Friday
. Clay angels by potter Robin Rogers (in the store on Friday

. Montgomery artist Camilla Armstrong

In addition to Alabama gifts, souvenirs, books, and artist-made items, a limited
edition, hand-crafted clay ornament of the Capitol portico by Montgomery artist
Tara Cady Sartorius is to be unveiled Friday, December 1. Other “made in
Alabama” ornaments include hand-quilted pine cones by the West Alabama Quilter’s
Guild, cotton boll and okra angels, Alabama flag and state-shaped stained glass
ornaments, handmade glass candy canes, and angel ornaments. Collectors will also
like the limited edition, blown-glass ornament of the historic Alabama capitol
building.
Perfect for the holidays are Alabama food items including candies and jellies
from Fairhope’s Punta Clara Kitchen; chocolate-covered nuts from The Nut Shop in
Tuscaloosa; mulling spice, jellies, and party food mixes from Raven’s Nest
Specialties; Besty’s cheese straws; and a large selection of Alabama cookbooks.
Katherine Helms will be in the museum store on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to
sign her cookbook, Alabama: Rich in Flavor.

Door prizes will be given away each day and mulled cider and cookies will be
available to shoppers while they browse the store’s large selection of unique
holiday gifts. On Saturday, free tours of the Capitol building are offered at 9
a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Each tour lasts about 45 minutes and no
reservations are necessary. The Goat Hill Museum Store is located inside the
historic Alabama State Capitol’s Union Street entrance.
