Texas coach Mack Brown on Friday introduced new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and former running backs coach Ken Rucker as the new director of high school relations and player development. Brown said he has instituted a curfew for his team. He also talked about RB Jamaal Charles and TE Jermichael Finley turning pro and how because so many juniors appear to be leaving early Brown probably won't redshirt as much anymore. Six players are undergoing surgery that will cause them to miss the spring, and UT has eight early enrollee freshmen on campus who will go through spring drills. The entry "Texas: Lots of football news ..." has no entry tags. January 11, 2008First we had Soulja Boy invade Reed Arena. Now, the Texas A&M; marketing folks have stuck again by partnering with another company to bring ZZ Top to Aggieland on April 18, the night before the Maroon & White spring football game. Every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man, right? Well, in this case, a sharp dressed Mike Sherman would be fine with me. I wonder how many times Billy, Dusty and Frank have been through College Station on their way to some super gig. ZZ Top was pretty good at the FedEx Orange Bowl, I thought. But you know the Orange Bowl suits paid some big-time bucks, and all they did was one song? Jeez, I hope A&M; AD Bill Byrne gets more bang for his buck this time around. Let's predict the set list. "Give Me All Your Lovin" followed by "Sharp Dressed Man" and then "Legs"...

Oklahoma sophomore forward Keith Clark has been ruled academically ineligible and won’t be enrolled at OU during the spring semester, men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel announced Thursday. Clark averaged 5.4 points and two rebounds in the Sooners’ first 14 games this season but was on the bench in street clothes during OU’s 81-57 win Monday against Mount St. Mary’s. “It’s a big loss for us,” Capel said in an OU statement. “Keith was playing very well. He’s one of our most talented players and he’s a good kid and a great teammate. We’re going to miss him. But my concerns about how this situation affects our team are far outweighed by my concerns about how it affects him personally.” Clark (6-8, 240), from Oklahoma City, Okla., averaged 3.8 points in 11 games as a freshman last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. OU (12-3), which has won five consecutive games, opens Big 12 play at 5 p.m. Saturday at home against Kansas State.

The entry "Hold that Hog" is tagged: Arkansas running back Darren McFadden Any of the media around Arkansas during the week leading up to the AT&T; Cotton Bowl could tell that the Razorbacks weren't exactly one big happy family. In between incoming and outgoing coaches, staffs and athletic directors, things were more than a little tense and confused. Now, Arkansas Chancellor John White is resigning, effective June 30. Don't think this is just a news story. Wally Hall of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette connects the dots nicely in regards to Arkansas athletics.

The entry "More changes at Arkansas" is tagged: Arkansas Razorbacks , John White So does being a head coach in the Southeastern Conference and the Big 12 naturally lead to becoming the head coach at Boyle County (Ky.) High School? OK, that's not the normal career path. And while I'm sure colleague Brian Davis will have more insight, it seems a little strange -- even if Morriss has a farm in Kentucky and remains popular there. The Danville (Ky.) Advocate-Messenger, which broke the story, has the details.

It's probably a smart decision for Holbrook, who was projected as a sixth-round draft pick this year. But next season doesn't feature an especially deep quarterback class. If Holbrook can avoid some of the injuries that plagued him this year and produces big numbers -- almost a certainty, given the offense -- he should improve his standing.

The entry "Holbrook staying at New Mexico St." has no entry tags. New Texas A&M; coach Mike Sherman held a meet-and-greet with reporters on Wednesday inside the Bright Football Complex. Below are some highlights of the transcription and some key Q-and-A that fans have. Well, I hope they’ve been wondering about these topics. Let’s start with an easy one. Now that offensive coordinator Nolan Cromwell has been hired, who will call the plays? Sherman: Being an offensive coach and having called plays, that’s something I certainly enjoyed doing. But we’re going to take that as we go. I want him to call the plays and I want to be interactive in all phases of the offense, defense and special teams. But I will have veto power when necessary. I have completely confidence that Nolan will do a good job. You can read a lengthy transcript that I typed up after the jump.
