Buddha
Here's the information for my crocheted Buddha. He stands 7" tall and is about 4 inches wide at the bottom. He is worked in rounds from the top.
Supplies needed:
1 Skein Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Gold (4-ply, 100% acrylic, 160 yards per skein)
F hook
Polyester fiberfill stuffing
One skein black embroidery floss
Yarn needle
Head and Body:
Gold:
Rnd 1. Ch 2, 4 sc in second chain from hook.
Rnd 2. 2 sc in each of the 4 sc. Join, Ch1.
Rnd 3. *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* around. Join, Ch 1.
Rnd 4. *2 sc in each sc* around. Join, Ch 1.
Rnd 5. *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* for 12 stitches. 1 sc in each of remaining sc.Join, ch 1.
Rnd 6. *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* for 15 stitches. 1 sc in each of remaining sc. Join, ch 1.
Rnd 7. *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* for 20 stitches. 1 sc in each of remaining sc. Join, ch 1.
Rnd 8. Sc decrease in next 29 sts. Ch 2, hdc in remainging sc. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 9. Hdc around. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 10. *hdc in next hdc, hdc decrease in next hdc* around. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 11. Hdc around. Join, ch 1.
Rnd 12. *1 sc in next hdc, sc decrease in next hdc* around. Join, ch 1.
Rnd 13. Now this is the tricky part. Insert hook in Rnd 11 and pull up a loop, sc in same stitch. Continue sc around in Rnd 11. Rnd 12 will be left inside. Join, ch 1.
Stuff the head firmly.
Rnd 14. *2 sc in each sc* around. Join, ch2.
Rnd 15. 2 hdc in each of next 3 sc, 1 hdc in each of next 10 sc, 2 hdc in each of next 3 sc, one hdc in each of next 8 sc, sc decrease, hdc in each of next 5 sc, sc decrease. Hdc in each of remaining sc. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 16. 1 hdc in each of next 6 hdc, hdc decrease.Hdc in next 8 hdc, hdc decrease.Hdc in next 6 hdc. Hdc decrease. Hdc in remaining hdc until last two, hdc decrease. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 17. Repeat Rnd 16.
Rnd 18. Hdc in next 6 hdc, decrease, 2 hdc in each of next 7 hdc. Decrease, 1 hdc in each of remaining hdc. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 19. 1 hdc in each of next 6 hdc, hdc decrease. 2 hdc in each of next 12 hdc, decrease. Hdc in remaining hdc, join, Ch 2.
Rnd 20. Hdc around, join, ch 2.
Rnd 21. Repeat Rnd 20.
Rnd 22. Repeat Rnd 20.
Rnd 23. * 1 hdc in each of next 6 hdc, hdc decrease in next hdc* around. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 24. *1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc, 1 hdc decrease in next hdc* around. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 25. Hdc around. Join, ch 2.
Rnd 26. Repeat Rnd 24.
Rnd 27. * 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc, 1 hdc decrease in next hdc* around. Join, Ch 1.
Rnd 28. *1 sc in next hdc, 1 sc decrease in next hdc* around. Join, fasten off.
Stuff body, shaping as you go.
Bottom:
Gold:
Rnd 1. Ch2, 4 sc in second ch from hook.
Rnd 2. 2 sc in each sc.
Rnd 3. *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* around. Join, ch 1.
Rnd 4. Repeat Rnd 3.
Rnd 5. Repeat Rnd 3.
Fasten off and sew to body over the hole at the bottom.
Ears:
Gold:
Ch2, 3 hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off. Make 2. Sew to side of head.
Now, with the yarn and needle, sew through the body at the shoulder and down his arms to shape them. Pull yarn tight to make the arms stick out a little.
Features: Using embroidery floss, sew features in face using a simple backstitch. The eyes are done by sewing a straight line and pulling up the middle with a tiny stitch directly above the eye, catching the middle of the line.
