CITY will face a trip to Southampton in the next round of the FA Cup if they can negotiate safely through their third round replay away to League Two Bury.

Southampton beat Leicester City 2-0 to earn their place in the fourth round and their reward is a home tie against either the Canaries or the Shakers, who drew 1-1 at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Norwich played Southampton in a fifth round tie at St Mary's in 2003 with the Saints, then a Premiership side, triumphing 2-0 on that occasion. George Burley's side are currently 15th in the Championship table.

City beat Southampton 2-1 in the first home game of the current campaign, leading scorer Jamie Cureton bagging both goals.

Southampton v Bury or Norwich will take place on the weekend of Saturday, January 26, with the Canaries already scheduled to visit St Mary's for a league clash on Tuesday, January 29.

City boss Glenn Roeder told First News: "I know we have made it more more difficult for ourselves having to go to Bury and win the replay, but we're very confident we can do that because we know we can play a lot better than the performance we turned in on Saturday.

"I would have prefered a home draw in the next round of course, but at least we know that if we get over the Bury hurdle we would be playing in a good stadium and hopefully in front of a big crowd."
