How, we wondered, could Brazil's Bonde Do Role follow up a video featuring a human cockfight? With something completely different, of course. Andreas Nilsson, director of the Knife's audiovisual show and "Like a Pen" clip, oversees the video for the genre-splicing Diplo pals' next single, "Office Boy". The latest single from the forthcoming and awesomely titled With Lasers LP, the track jumps from the bare-bones electro of "Solta O Frango" into baile-funked jock jamz, complete with "Start Me Up"-like 1980s rawk riffage and a "ba-ba-ba-HEY" chorus.
In the video, singer Marina Ribatski jumps around in a short yellow dress and purple face paint, singing in Portuguese about the shitty Brazilian job of "office boy." Bland office drones with ties and fake smiles stand in the background. Then director Nilsson lets his imagination get to work, overlaying the cubicle jungle with fanciful illustrations and effects (skeletons lighting a fire in the bathroom?). Highlights include a guitar solo that sets off a lightning storm, and our topless, hunky office boy shaking it, Right Said Fred-like, for the ladies. Now if only there were a human cockfight...
[from With Lasers; due the week of 06/04/07 on Domino]
In the UK, "Office Boy" will also be released as a single on CD and a pair of limited-edition 7"'s. Spread across the formats will be couple of B-sides and remixes by Architecture in Helsinki and Shir Khan, as well as this excellent re-working by Bonde pals CSS:
