NO DUAL LINK SUPPORT WITH VISTA 32!!!!!
Posted: Aug 19, 2007 6:20 PM

This really *****. 30'' Cinema Display, or 30'' Dell will not work in Vista 32 running on a MBP 17inch Core Dou 2 with the 8600mGT.

We need drivers that add this support. Come on Apple, stop dragging your feet, and please release a friggen fix. I can't play Battlefield 2 on OSX, nor would I want to play it emulated. I want to use my display in Vista!!!!!!

Please wake me when it's fixed.

Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. What INF-file did you use. I see the INF is not ready yet on the download page you link to.

I am so close to buying a 30" ACD - have tested it in the store now several times, but can't get it to work with Vista in Boot Camp.

Sincerely,

There is a INF in the driver you download. But it is zipped up. Look for a inf.zip with the setup files.

Also, There is a small gimmick I had to do to get it working. Perhaps this work around I found works on any driver... But it includes glitching the sync by unplugging the Dell, and plugging it back in a few times.. Read below.

When you download the drivers from that site, there is a ZIP file that includes the inf files. Just copy the most generic named one into the setup folder of setup files for the driver.

I also found out that you need to plug, and unplug the DVI cable in order to get it to work. Make sure you are in the Display options screen with the resolution settings, and make sure you are getting a signal to the display.

Example. I plug in my 2nd 30inch monitor. I then go to the screen properties in Vista. I turn on the 2nd display. Looking at the 2nd 30'' Display I will notice that the screen is split in 2, and there is artifacting. I unplug the DVI cable. I plug it back in, and hear the windows beep, like it detect the display. I then unplug it, and plug it back. You repeat plugging it in, and out until the screen is properly show a non split screen.

Once you get a proper display showing on your 30'', you can then turn primary display off (which is your laptop display), and make your 30 inch the main display at 2560x1600.

This works.. I have repeated this many times. Perhaps it works with any of the drivers.. I haven't checked any new ones. It seems like a big sync issue in Vista with this 8600m, but plugging in, and unplugging seems to glitch the drivers into having it work.

I wonder if it works with any driver... Perhaps I just found the glitch trick using the 155.56 drivers... If anyone else wants to try, it would be great to know.

This makes me wonder if it is a Vista problem... Either way, its screwed.

You PROBABLY want to have 3GB of memory, too. Vista maps vram into system and already has a larger footprint, plus reserved space.

Nvidia released 32-bit Vista drivers this week. Take a look at the readme on their site to see about mobility.

I read the Nvidia readme, and it says there are a lot of unfixed issues.. one of the issues might have something to do with it. And 3G's of ram has nothing to do with the problem. I have 4 gigs installed.

Only mentioned RAM as it wasn't in your post or profile and too many people run into low resolution issues on Mac Pro running Vista with 1GB.

I have 4 GBs of Ram, so that is not the problem.

Finally solved it - the 156.55 and the 156.64 drivers for mobile chips did wake the 30-inch Apple Cinema Display (ACD) to life. Also testet the same drivers on the Dell 30-inch with the same good result.

The MBP will boot into Vista, and the ACD will display a picture distorted - 2 sqeezed images at once... But if you unplug and plug in the DVI-again, the correct resolution will be detected. You can not extend the desktop over both monitors.

Hopefull the coming drivers will auto-detect the monitor at all times. At least the drivers now are dual-link capable.

Sincerely,
