Nguyen Minh Triet elected new State President

CPV Politburo member Nguyen Minh Triet has been elected new State President with 464 votes (94.12%) in favour.

This was announced at this morning session of the National Assembly.

Speaking at the session, Mr Triet promised to do his utmost to serve the nation and people, fulfill the duty of a State President stipulated by the Constitution and Law, continue implementing programmes, plans and responsible ambitions of his predecessor, former President Tran Duc Luong.

President Triet said he hoped to receive support and cooperation from the National Assembly, the entire people and overseas Vietnamese community, as well as regular coordination from agencies and organsations to fulfill the noble mission assigned by the National Assembly.

Mr Triet recommended Mr Nguyen Tan Dung, who is Politburo member and permanent Deputy Prime Minister, as the candidate for the new Prime Minister.
