Amurao bags Fearless 
Fighting featherweight crown


WUSHU artist Joel Amurao flaunted his superb fighting skills to the hilt and dominated Jovan Presbeterio to score a first round victory and capture the featherweight crown in the Fearless Fighting Championship before a huge crowd at the Metrowalk complex in Ortigas, Pasig, recently.

Amurao seized control of the former top amateur boxer early then went on to fashion out a Rear Naked Choke triumph right in the opening round of the scheduled five-round bout, the featured match in the blockbuster fight card presented by Ace Techonologies.

Mark Sangiao also pulled off a victory over Eric Cepeda with the Universal Reality Combat Championship) champion and a former SEA Games gold medallist essaying a second round Referees Stoppage (Strikes) victory over the Guam-based knockout artist in their lightweight clash.

Also hurdling their rivals in the event organized by FFC, headed by president Alex Lopez, were top contender Bernard Dumar, who scored a unanimous decision (second round) win over Celso Gunda; and Edward Kelly, another No. 1 contender, who stopped

Arie Zarco in a Referee Stoppage (due to cut) contest.

The event, backed by Bingo Bonanza Corp., FHM, Metrowalk, Superb Security Agency, Mahjong88.com, Blueridge Carhaus Inc., NTS Trading Corp. and Futurebet Asia Gaming Systems, was staged to generate public awareness and at the same time promote mixed martial arts as a sport where Filipino fighters can excel in the international arena.

In other results, Vicente Pajaro of Hybrid Yawyan toppled Ernesto Yraita in their heavyweight clash via decision; Angelo Lazarrito of Fight Club prevailed over Angelo Cristy of Hybrid Yawyan (Referee Stoppage Strikes); Antonio Esteban of Parañaque MMA won over Melchor Villasan of Freestyle (Referee Stoppage); Jesus Rabadon of Parañaque MMA beat Sulpiano Laurio of Sprawl (Referee Stoppage); Freestyle’s Dennis Cariño downed Ariel Samadio of Sprawl; Miguel Flameño of Submission Report bested Martin Lastimosa of Fight Club (Tap out/Triangle choke); and Adrian Hillana of Submission Sport-Bacolod stopped Razi Jabbari of Freestyle (knockout 1st round).
