The Eurocorps Badge

The Eurocorps insignia

The Eurocorps emblem is worn by all members of the Headquarters and is the symbol of unity, cohesion and integration. There are two versions of it: the emblem and the capbadge.

The Emblem

The Eurocorps emblem has the shape of a shield. Its shape and the dark-blue background symbolize the European defence. The yellow stars symbolize the European Union, the sword symbolizes its armed arm, while the contours of the European continent represent both the boundaries of the European Union and the commitment for peace and security for the benefit of Europe and the Atlantic Alliance. The Headquarters members wear the Eurocorps tab since the creation of the European Corps.

The beret and the capbadge

Despite the fact that the idea of a common beret for all members of the Eurocorps HQ was launched in 1993, it was not officially introduced before 2000. The dark-blue Eurocorps beret is similar to the one already worn by the French-German Brigade. An internal contest allowed choosing the insignia to be worn on the European beret. The silver-coloured and circular model of Sergeant-Major TOMCZYK (FR) was selected. The insignia's external contour is decorated with stars symbolizing the European Union. The contours of the European continent and the sword have the same meaning as those included in the emblem. On December 4th, 2000, Teniente General Juan Ortuño received the first common beret from Vice-Admiral Herteleer, Chief of Staff of the Belgian Armed Forces and chairman of the Eurocorps Common Committee.
