By day, the music industry's most accomplished and creative personalities collaborated, argued, and shared their experiences in dozens of panels, workshops, interviews, and meetings. Over 1500 acts showcased last year before more than 12,000 registrants from all over the world. Pop, jazz, country, blues, reggae, hip hop, electronica - every imaginable style of music, from nearly every continent - is represented each night at over 70 of Austin's premier stages, many within walking distance of one another.

There's more amazing music performed and crucial business conducted in Austin over those few days than anyone who hasn't been to SXSW can imagine. If you have been, you'll want to come back, if you haven't, now is your chance. Make South by Southwest part of your plans this year.

R.E.M. To Showcase At SXSW 2008

R.E.M.SXSW Music is pleased to announce a special showcase by R.E.M. at the SXSW 2008 festival. Athens’ finest have recently completed recording of their album “Accelerate,” due April 1 on Warner Brothers Records. Smalltown Supersound at SXSW ’08!

Kim HiorthoyLast year, Norwegian art-rockers 120 Days made a huge splash at SXSW. This year, the label that put them on the map is returning to SXSW for an entire night of ground breaking music.

Smalltown Supersound was started by Joakim Haugland in Oslo, Norway in the mid-90’s and is known as a visionary label that is not afraid to take a chance on new sounds. From jazz to rock to electronic beats, the label covers a wide spectrum of sounds. We are happy to announce that this year SXSW will present an entire night, curated by Haugland and featuring artists from his home country and beyond.

Kim Hiorthøy, Lindstrom, Tussle, Bjorn Torske, Arp and KXP will all share the stage for a night of way out beats and futuristic sounds.

Domino Records Showcase At SXSW 2008

The KillsDomino Records, the groundbreaking independent label that recently brought you the bands Franz Ferdinand, Animal Collective and Arctic Monkeys, returns to Austin this March to introduce their latest crop of “Next Big Things” to the world.

Lou Reed To Keynote SXSW Music

Lou Reed at SXSW 2008The South By Southwest Music Conference and Film Festival are pleased to announce that Lou Reed will be the keynote speaker for 2008. Reed’s keynote will be held in conjunction with a screening of Julian Schnabel’s film “Lou Reed’s ‘Berlin,’” which documents a recent performance of the landmark 1973 album. Reed’s groundbreaking work with the Velvet Underground and subsequent solo work reverberate through the music world to this day. His music continues to explore themes and sounds in a singular style, staking new territory for rock and roll. Reed will speak at the Austin Convention Center on March 13 as the kickoff of the twenty-second annual SXSW.
