Miran Stanovnik: «I have bettered myself as a human »
Miran Stanovnik has reason to be proud. Like he said himself, in 11 years, his record is “all the same not bad”: 11 participations, seven finishes, and most of all a very impressive 13th overall result last year. These results reward the excellent mentality of this officer in the Slovenian army and who’s every word transmits his love of the Dakar. “I am one of the real members of the Dakar family. I love coming back to the atmosphere, friends and organisers…” When he talks about “his” race, the Slovenian rider is sincerely emotional. “The Dakar has made me better myself as a human. It has changed the way I look at life in general”. The race seems to have returned the love: in 11 years, Miran, just once, suffered only a slight shoulder injury.
Over the years, Miran has developed a rare will and never ending positive attitude. To get to the finish line, Miran uses an insightful philosophy. “I never think about how many kilometres are left but rather those I have already covered. To go forward, you have to also remember that you are there because you want to be. And you have to forget everything else, clear your head for two weeks and think only about the race”. This year, Miran will employ all his mental faculties to try to better his personal best set the year before. “Do better than 13th will be hard. But if you want to push your limits, you have no reason to do this race!”
