Breaking! NAACP Image Awards Get Strike Waiver

Categories: awards, breaking
Alicia Keys

Unlike the Golden Globes, the NAACP Image Awards will go on in full red carpet force.

I have learned the WGA has granted a waiver to the NAACP, so it can hold its 39th annual gala and awards ceremony. In other words, there will be no stripped-down press conference à la yesterday's Globes!

I’m told an official announcement may come as early as some time today or during a press conference tomorrow. The awards are slated to take place and air live on Fox Feb. 14.

The 44 categories recognize achievements in movies, television, music and literature. Among the many nominees are Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, Will Smith, Angelina Jolie, Tyler Perry, America Ferrera, Taye Diggs, Blair Underwood, Jennifer Beals, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West, Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys.

Stevie Wonder will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame.

Again, there is no official announcement from the NAACP or WGA just yet. I'll update ya when I hear more.

The SAG Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards have already received waivers. Let's just hope the Oscars do, too.

1.The difference, Eye-rolling Krissy, is the difference between a 'deal' and a 'waiver'. World Wide Pants et al developed deals with regard to compensation for the writers, while the NAACP has received 'permission' to go on with the show despite having no agreement. I don't know how the NAACP can't find this patronizing.

2.Ahhh...it's nice to see that bigotry and ignorance is alive and well in America. The WGA has been giving waivers to groups, studios and productions companies (how the **** do you think Letterman made it back to TV) with whom they've worked out independent deals. <Eyeroll> Deliver me from the weak and stupid.

4.Why do THEY get to have a show? You know if it was the other way around it would be an entirely different story! WHACK!

5.Nobody is going to watch anyway, so why would the writer's guild give a crap if they put on their dog and pony show.
