Belarus-Syria report subsantial progress in trade and economic relations 31.08.2007

Syria is a pivotal parner of Belarus in the Middle East, said the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, when meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic in our country, Faruq Taha, on August 31, 2007.

According to the President, Syria is a state that can be especially relied upon in the relations of Belarus and the Middle East. There are no closed topics between us and Belarusian-Syrian cooperation has been developing along all the avenues,” the Head of State added. The President highlighted a good dynamism in the mutual goods turnover (over 6 months of the current year, it rose 66 percent from the respective period of the last year).

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that Belarus and Syria have been actively supporting each other at international agencies and they share nearly identical views in finding solutions to major international issues. In view of the Head of State, the recent opening of the Syrian Embassy in Minsk indicates Syria’s willingness to develop serious long-term cooperation.

The President of Belarus asked the Syrian Ambassador to convey an invitation to the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar al-Asad, to visit Belarus at any convenient time. The Head of the Belarusian State accentuated his readiness to discuss with the Syrian leader any range of issues regarding all the areas of cooperation between both nations.
