Oregon State University Pakistan Teacher Education and Professional Development Program: English

Background

The Pakistan Teacher Education and Professional Development Program (PTEPDP) is a large, multi-year project funded by the US Agency for International Development and managed by the Academy for Educational Development. Oregon State University is scheduled to host three groups of Pakistani educators and teacher educators in the areas of science education, English as a foreign language, and math education. The primary units involved with the project at OSU are the English Language Institute and the College of Education.

The first OSU group came in Fall term, 2004. The group consisted of 13 science educators from several regions of Pakistan. Science education courses wre taught by faculty from the Department of Science and Mathematics Education and the SMILE (Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences) program. The second group is currently at OSU. They are 20 English as a foreign language teachers, also from several regions of Pakistan. EFL courses are taught by faculty from the English Language Institute. Overall objectives

The OSU Pakistan Teacher Education and Professional Development Program has four major overall objectives:

  1. Provide Certification Courses in Science Education, English as a Second/Foreign Language, and Math Education
  2. Enhance Intercultural Learning
  3. Develop Partnerships and Networks
  4. Implement In-country Training Programs
