Tomb Raider Co-Creator Steps Down

Jeremy Heath-Smith leaves Eidos amid a Core Design fallout.

Eidos Interactive's headquarters in England announced today that Jeremy Heath-Smith, managing director and co-founder of the publisher's Core Design studio, has left both companies. "The Eidos Board would like to express its gratitude to Jeremy for his contribution to the development of the Eidos Group over the past seven years," read an official company release dated today. No reason was given for the departure, which takes effect immediately.

Heath-Smith, who founded Core Design with his brother Adrian Smith in 1988, was one of the main people behind the creation of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider series. Their latest game, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, was plagued with delays and missed the end of Eidos' financial year in Europe, likely costing the publisher millions in revenue for the year. Heath-Smith's departure might be a case of the Core co-founder taking responsibility for the delays, although nobody from Core or Eidos is commenting on the matter at the moment.
