Hari bol! I hope you are well.
I saw the article about Yamaraja/Yamaduttas and was very impressed. It reminded me of a story that happened long ago in Miami, around 1985.
I was living in the temple there and we got a call from Rose Forkesh, (I'm not sure of the spelling), who was the woman who had started the FOLK program (Friends of Lord Krsna). She was living in California and told us that her mother was in the hospital and about to leave her body in Miami. She asked us if someone could go see her. I went with Mother Akuti and we took a tape player with us and a tape of Srila Prabhupada chanting. When we arrived at the hospital Mrs. Forkesh's mother was sleeping. They said she had been asleep for some time, or for most of the time, so she did not wake up to see us. We put on the tape and put some small garlands on her and chanted next to her. She had neck beads on, I believe, or they had told us she was wearing them, but then they had to take them off because her neck had swollen up. She seemed pretty peaceful.
In contrast the women in the bed next to her was crying out, "They are coming to get me!! They are coming to get me!!" She kept yelling over and over again. Akuti and I looked at each other and thought she must be seeing the Yamadutas! The woman's daughter was sitting next to her in a chair and saying, "Oh mother, don't worry. It will be alright!", trying to calm her down and acting like her mother was crazy or something. Then the women in the chair left and Mother Akuti went over to the woman in bed and held her hand and began to chant Hare Krishna. This brought tears to my eyes seeing the compassion of a devotee. As soon as Akuti started chanting the women calmed down and was quiet. I truly believe that the Yamadutas left at that time.
Thanks for your continued preaching efforts.
Sincerely, Shyama Priya
