Total for this year

As of 14th November 2007

On Monday 8th May 2006 Sir Kevin Tebbit KCB CMG, Chairman of the Lifeboat Fund, officially opened Lifeboat Pier.  The day was a great success and was well attended by invited guests, RNLI staff, crew and their families.

Total since Station operational (2nd Jan 2002)

The RNLI purchased the old Waterloo Police Pier, which is to be our new Station.  It is now back on its moorings after hull refurbishment at a local boat yard.  Work has just begun on the superstructure and it should hopefully be completed by early 2006.  Whilst we will all be sad to leave Tower Pier it will be nice to live above the waterline and be able to see daylight!

Tower Pier Lifeboat Station was officially opened on 2 January 2002. After an intensive 2 week ‘work-up’ at Ipswich, getting used to the new E-class boat, followed by further intensive training on the Thames, we were fully operational. The Station was just about complete in time for the opening ceremony, although since then we have added several ‘home comforts’ in order to make it a suitable working environment for continuous 12-hour shifts. With the Station below decks, all those who visit us are amazed, as from the outside you wouldn’t even know, apart from the RNLI flag flying, that there was a lifeboat station on the Pier.
