Bringing individuals and organizations together to affect public policy issues in New York City
The New York Women's Agenda (NYWA) is a coalition of women professionals and community activists who support the diversity and interests of New York Women through collaboration, advocacy and education. NYWA’s mission is to advocate and collaborate for the interests of New York women in public policy decisions that affect our lives; to increase women’s participation in public policy discussions on economic, political and social issues; and to support member organizations in their individual efforts.
AN EVENING WITH THE LEADERS
The 2007 NYWA President’s reception was once again held at the beautiful home of Sally Minard on October . Those in attendance included leaders of many of NYWA’s member organizations, past presidents and past and current Stars.
Following a lively networking session which afforded attendees an opportunity to greet old friends and make new ones, President, Sandra Eberhard opened the program with a quick overview of NYWA’s current initiatives, followed by First Vice President Karen Karpowich’s update on the 2007 Star Breakfast and introduction of the Stars in attendance which included:
Terry Bishoff, CEO, American Red Cross in Greater New York
Dr. Marsha Firestone, Founder/President, Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO) and Women Presidents’ Educational Organization
Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, The Erline Perkins McGriff Professor and Dean, College of Nursing, NYU
Alondra de La Parra, Founder and Artistic Director, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas

Suleika Cabrera Drinane, MSW, President/CEO, Institute for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly

As an exciting touch to the evening, the leader of each organization was asked to give a short brief about her organization while being videotaped. As each leader spoke about her particular group, the vast reach of NYWA’s organizations once again came to light.
It was impossible to leave this inspiring gathering without a renewed knowledge of the strength, unity and mutual purpose that the many organizations gathered under the NYWA umbrella impart.
NYWA held their sixteenth annual Star Breakfast on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at The New York Hilton with almost 1,000 in attendance. The event was hosted by Roz Abrams and Brenda Blackman, Co-anchor, My9 WWOR-TV. Special guests included New York State’s First Lady, Silda Wall Spitzer.
